Encore!  Celebrating a second act with The BRIT School

We’re celebrating the second successful year of Kairos’ renewed collaboration with The BRIT School’s  Applied Theatre department.  Kairos residents recently took part in a series of drama workshops led by Applied Theatre students, culminating in a dazzling showcase of work from the sessions.

THE BRIT IS BACK! (5)

In January and February, nine BRIT School students and staff member Lucy Dear visited Kairos’ Linden Grove.  Over four weeks, they worked closely with residents in both large and small groups, fostering a strong, collaborative atmosphere and creating workshop content shaped around participants’ interests.  Activities ranged from scriptwork – featuring films as diverse as Taxi Driver, The Wizard of Oz and The Little Mermaid – to energetic drama games, including the ever-popular Splat!

Residents, whether previously experienced in drama or not, threw themselves into the challenge, often uncovering new strengths and talents.

This collaboration once again demonstrates the value of creativity in recovery.  It was a hit with residents, who enjoyed the fun and sense of togetherness experienced in the workshops.

An immense thank you to everyone who took part: to Lucy Dear and the Applied Theatre team from The BRIT School for their dedication, energy, and support, and to Kairos residents for their courage, openness, and enthusiasm.
