Mindful Photography exhibition brings workshops to a celebratory close

Last Friday marked the final workshop for our 2025 Mindful Photography collaboration with Mindful Photo Lab, marked – as has now become tradition – with a celebration and exhibition of participants’ work at Linden Grove.

Led by Pierre Bureau of Mindful Photo Lab, this eight-week series of workshops took Kairos community participants all over London: the glasshouses and hidden corners of Kew Gardens, the historic majesty of Tower of London and Greenwich, the diverse vibrancy and street art of Brick Lane, the bold imagination of Tate Modern…and more.

Each week paired mindful observation with photography, encouraging participants to notice, reflect and create.

Mindful photography combines the outer lens of the camera (well, smartphone) and the inner lens of awareness and meditation.  It explores not just what we see but how we see it and what shapes that. It is a process of paying attention: to the current moment and to light, shape, colour and feeling.

Over a dozen people joined the course when it began on 21st March.  Workshops ran weekly for two hours, blending modern technology with a mindful approach to observation and creativity.  Finally, last Friday, participants selected and captioned their photos, which were displayed at the exhibition, with each person receiving a framed print of their work to take home.

Volunteer Baz did a fantastic job designing the posters and assisting Pierre throughout: thank you, Baz!

Our huge gratitude and appreciation once again to Pierre and Mindful Photo Lab for making it all possible.

“I was really impressed, and genuinely taken aback by the quality of the photos. They really captured the spirit of the workshops, and there was such a positive energy in the room.”
Matt Dear, Move-on manager

“The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, no pressure.  Just like Pierre!  I’ve learnt to notice things I’d usually miss, whether looking up above me or even through that space of a bin to see how it could frame the view beyond.  It inspired me to think differently about colour, shape and space and I’ve realised I love taking pictures in black and white.  And to top it all off, it was a beautiful way to get to know more people across the community.”
