Welcome, Linden Empowerment Community and the ‘Peer Power’ handbook!
We are delighted to introduce the Linden Empowerment Community (LEC), founded by residents in Kairos’ Move-on housing. In addition to hosting regular meetings to support Linden residents transitioning into supported housing, LEC this week launched Peer Power: The Ultimate Handbook for Shared Success ‘For us, by us’, which outlines opportunities for study, creative, physical and therapeutic activities for residents as they move on.
LEC’s Amy and Simon joined us for a Q&A to share more.
Why did you found the group?
We started this group because we wanted to share our recovery journeys and the support we’ve experienced through Kairos. It’s about helping each other make that next step in life, to feel less daunting and more empowering.
There’s something truly special about the community spirit in Linden, and it’s easy to underestimate the void that forms when someone leaves that environment. We wanted to bridge that gap and make the transition easier by providing structure, purpose, and discovery.
What have you been doing since you launched the LEC?
We kicked off the Linden Empowerment Community and Peer Power handbook on 26th September 2024, with an incredible launch. Mossie Lyons, Kairos’ Director, captured the tone perfectly with an inspiring, heartfelt talk that motivated everyone in the room. Four senior peers – Simon, Jahdine, Matt and Amy – have committed to hosting each monthly meeting, creating space for real conversations. We listen – really listen – to our peers’ questions, dreams, and everything in between.
LEC meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month, 3:30 – 4:30 pm. Each month, a motivational guest speaker shares their expertise, answers questions, and offers inspiration. These meetings have become something people look forward to. Even some staff couldn’t resist sneaking in, leaving with nothing but praise for the initiative!
Why did you create the handbook?
Recovery opens the door to a world full of joy, discovery, and new experiences. We wanted to capture that essence in a way that goes beyond words. LEC’s Peer Power handbook is a companion for residents as they move on from Linden, grounding and guiding them through the next phase of life. It’s not just a manual of information; it’s a living, evolving, resource for empowerment, reminding them of endless possibilities ahead.
How does it feel to be part of this group?
For us – Amy, Simon, Matt, and Jahdine – being part of this group has been deeply empowering. We’ve all faced so much in our personal journeys, and watching this community blossom has given us renewed purpose. The positive feedback and support from everyone in Kairos has been humbling. We feel incredibly grateful and privileged to be part of something meaningful to us and impactful for so many others. This is just the beginning!
