Happy New Year! Buzzing into 2024
What better way to welcome the first day of a new year than by turning the page on a new calendar?
Happy New Year! And congratulations to Kairos beekeeper, Grace Madden, whose stunning photograph (left) has been chosen to represent January in the 2024 Vita Bee Health calendar. Grace’s photographs have featured in the calendar for two consecutive years and she was also selected as one of two overall runners-up for 2024.
Grace explains that, “I love this particular picture because it’s of my dear mentor, Mick Coen, in the spring. It’s a lovely mix of smokiness and sunshine. And there are bees everywhere!
“Mick’s doing a hive inspection, making sure the bees are on track. We do these once a week; you don’t want to disturb the bees but need to spot any diseases or issues, make sure they have enough food, things like that. Someone in the background is taking hive notes, to keep track of progress.
“I’m really chuffed that somebody who judges pictures would choose me again. It’s crazy but very cool. I’m very, very grateful and it’s put a spring in my step.”
