Running for recovery: less than a month to the Brighton Marathon

With the Brighton Marathon rapidly approaching, Kairos support worker Steve and friend of Kairos Matthew are deep into their training and their fundraising. As ‘Team Unity’, they’ve already raised over £1,000 in sponsorship and hope to go even further.

Steve Brighton Marathon

Steve has been sharing training updates on their GoFundMe page. In his latest instalment, he reflects on both the challenge of marathon training and the journey of recovery.

Looking back, Steve never imagined going from years of struggle to running a marathon but, in his words:

“It started with an almost impossibly small amount of hope. But hope alone is and has never been enough. The key was taking action – small, consistent steps in the right direction.  Action builds momentum, which reinforces hope and starts a cycle of change.

“Maybe that’s how a plant knows how to grow. It doesn’t just sit in the soil and hope. It senses the light, reaches for it, moves toward it. Growth isn’t instant and it isn’t always easy, but it happens through small, steady movements in the right direction. Kind of like recovery.  Not just hoping for change but responding to it, moving with it, and trusting that with time and persistence, something new will emerge.”
