2024 Updates: Bethwin Road and the new CQC Framework
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) introduced a new inspection framework in January 2024, enhancing assessment approaches for care providers, local authorities, and integrated care systems.
With its rollout in London and the East of England from January to March, the framework retains the existing four-point ratings scale of ‘outstanding’, ‘good’, ‘requires improvement’ and ‘inadequate’, as well as the five key assessments of whether a service is safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led. The CQC now has a new provider portal and also introduces Quality Statements focused on outcomes, setting clear expectations for high-quality, person-centered care.
Bethwin Road, Kairos’ residential rehab facility, marks its 25th year of regulated social care in 2024.
Registered as a care home in December 1999 and initially regulated by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) from April 2004, Bethwin Road has been under CQC regulation since 2009. It was rated ‘good’ overall by the CQC and assessed as ‘outstanding’ for the category of ‘are services caring?’ in its last inspection.
The CQC’s assessment report noted:
“Clients were truly respected and valued as individuals. Staff were exceptionally skilled and experienced. They empowered clients as partners in their care and supported them to take ownership of their own recovery journey. The service had a strong, distinctive ethos of creating a community environment that nurtured trust, responsibility and respect. Feedback from people who use the service, and their care managers who funded the placements, was overwhelmingly positive about the way staff treat clients. Clients valued the support they received and the understanding that staff had of their experiences. They said it felt like being part of family.”
For UK care providers, adherence to CQC regulations is crucial for operational success, client safety, and wellbeing. Bethwin Road continues to be committed to transparency, continuous improvement, and person-centered care, adapting to new developments while maintaining its core values of excellence and compassion in care.
