A poem that left a lasting impression

At last week’s visit of Kairos Director Mossie Lyons and support worker Giampiero Mozzi  a special poem written by Giampiero was shared, during the 30-year celebration of CRASH Charity. It left a lasting impression on everyone present.

Many guests were deeply moved by the poem and asked for copies afterwards. Several people also suggested creating a dedicated space for the poem so its message can continue to inspire others.

What We Carry Forward

We are people with history
not the kind written neatly,
but the kind etched into nights survived
and mornings we didn’t think we’d see.

We know the weight of wanting to disappear
and the courage it takes
to stay.

From that same broken ground,
a team was formed
not perfect,
but present.

What once hurt us
now teaches us how to listen.
What once nearly took our lives
now shows us how to help save another’s.

I give thanks to the organisation
that opened a door
when I had no strength left to knock.
You did not ask who I had been
you showed me who I could become.

I give thanks to the people I work for,
who believe recovery is not an ending
but a beginning with responsibility.

And I give thanks to the people I work with
walking proof
that pain can be transformed
into purpose.

This gratitude is not quiet.
It breathes.
It shows up.
It stays.
