Thank you, Miriam, and rest in peace

Miriam, a former counsellor at Bethwin Road from 2006 to 2023, died peacefully in her sleep at St George’s Hospital on Sunday 26th July. Miriam had been unwell for some time but continued to show strength and dignity throughout.
Miriam loved and lived recovery, with a relentless work ethic for and with her clients at Bethwin Road. All who worked with Miriam benefited from the experience, strength and hope she gave. Miriam gave so much, over many years, to so many people and was a joy to be around. She will be sadly missed by family, friends, colleagues and former residents.
Miriam’s wish for a pure cremation will be honoured. I encourage anyone who wishes to do so to remember Miriam and to celebrate the friendship they had with her in a way that is personal to them.
I personally thank you, Miriam. Your words of wisdom, mixed with tough love and humour, have helped me so much. You were my counsellor, then my colleague, but above all my friend. You came into my life 19 years ago which, by no coincidence, is my whole recovery life. I am so happy that I could also be with you through your tough times. It has been an honour and a privilege to know you and to be part of your life, just as you helped me so much in changing mine.
Not a day will go by when you are not in my thoughts.
