In memory of Peter Moss
We were saddened this week to hear of the death of Peter Moss, long-standing friend of Kairos. In his memory, Father John Kitchen reflects on their long association and Peter’s sustained support of Kairos over several decades.
On Sunday 19th April we heard of the death of Peter Moss from the parish of St Anthony of Padua, Radlett. I trust Peter is now united with his glorious God, his lovely wife Bridget and with the great company of the saints in Glory.
Though many may not know it, Peter has been a most faithful and long-standing friend and benefactor of Kairos since its very beginning.
I first met Peter in 1968 when I was preparing for my ordination and I was sent to St Anthony’s for pastoral experience. I remember meeting Peter after I gave a homily during a Sunday Mass around Christmas time. After Mass Peter spoke to me at the door, saying that my words had struck him, especially a quote from the Gospel, the words of John, the Baptist “He must increase and I must decrease!” Years passed, when I worked in Sierra Leone and later in Pakistan. I then returned to London and was asked to celebrate Mass again in St Anthony’s and met Peter again. Our work with homeless people was just beginning and Peter was eager to help, collecting clothes and small furniture.
That was in 1992. From that time Peter was a regular visitor to Kairos with his collections and donations, almost until the present. That’s 30 odd years. So I’m just asking all at Kairos, who maybe never knew or even heard of Peter, to say a special prayer that God will give Peter and his wife Bridget a very special thank you, from all of us who benefitted from his kind concern. And ask God to bless so many other good kind folks who similarly supported Kairos to make it the great community it is today.
We are grateful for Peter’s many years of support and kindness for Kairos. May he rest in peace.
